The Legend Buju Banton drops new and first video since his partnership with Roc Nation was announced. Buju Banton is back with another self-produced single in “Steppa.”
The reggae legend also released a coinciding visual to the island-tinged tune on Friday (Nov. 22), which finds him peacefully defusing a potentially fatal conflict back in his homeland of Jamaica.
“A certain culture has taken on a life of its own and become a monster,” Baton told Rolling Stone. “Things are not the way they used to be — crime and violence, the gap between the rich and the poor. Wasn’t that always my role, to bring some civility and some consciousness to human existence, to the music? I’ve not changed.”
Stamping his return to the music game, Banton has inked a partnership with Roc Nation and Island Records, which was actually helped put together by some connecting the dots from Rihanna.
“It’s an honor to work with a legend and trailblazer of Buju’s caliber — His music catalog is simply unparalleled,” said Roc Nation co-presidents Shari Bryant and Omar Grant. “We’re thrilled to help propel his legacy forward and look forward to amplifying his resurgence on a global level.”
A full-length project from Banton looks to be on the horizon in 2020, which will mark 10 years since the release of his Grammy-winning Before The Dawn album.
