Dancehall fans around the world hold their breath as the Privy Council, Jamaica’s highest court, delivers its verdict in the murder case against Adidja “Vybz Kartel” Palmer. The live-streamed judgment is expected at 11 AM local time today.
Kartel, alongside Shawn “Shawn Storm” Campbell and two others, were convicted in 2014 of killing Clive Williams. The prosecution claimed Williams failed to return guns and was murdered for it. Williams’ body was never found.
Kartel and his co-defendants have always denied involvement. After their initial appeal was dismissed in 2020, they brought the case to the Privy Council.
A key point debated during the February hearing was potential jury tampering, raising questions about the fairness of the original trial.
Legal experts predict the verdict could be anything from a full acquittal to a retrial.
