Jamaican 19 year old super star Mikayla Simpson popularly known as Koffee has won the 2020 Grammy Award in the Best Reggae Album category for her EP Rapture.
Koffee, who started making waves in 2018 after releasing her single Toast which won the Jamaica Music Industry Association Award -single of the year (2018) has become the youngest solo act and only female ever to win a Grammy for a reggae album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Award on January 26. Koffee came out the best among notable reggae artists who also happen to be previous nominees like Steel Pulse, Julian Marley, Sly and Robbie & Roots Radics and Third World.
The teenager who dedicated the award to the people of Jamaica and all reggae lovers had this to say between her incredible performance “I would like to thank all the producers and everyone who has helped me make Rapture what it is today, u have now become part of my journey”.
Koffee’s EP Rapture, which has been trending globally features songs like Toast, Throne and Raggamuffin which became massive hits and Rapture which debuted number one on Billboard reggae album chart.
