Following her self-released single “Attraction” last year, rising UK rising star Monique Lawz brings the heat with her new track ‘Worth It’ – her first following signing with Warner Records, and featuring a notable feature from the Godfather of Grime, Wiley.
Starting the year bringing the finesse and fire she’s cultivated such a reputation for on the underground, the North London singer-songwriter celebrates her Jamaican heritage on location in Ocho Rios, with the heavy presence of steel drums a perfect foundation for a talented vocal performance and that remarkable mix of charisma and killer style.
“Worth It” comes as both a vindication and milestone for one of the streets’ hottest artists, Monique’s talent as a bona fide tastemaker and performer marking her out as a significant new force.
With previous features on West London rapper Skrapz’s album and British-Jamaican artist Lisa Mercedez’s EP, Monique’s re-emergence with ‘4 Minutes’ in 2018 proved to be the launch pad for her highly-anticipated re-introduction, her star continuing to rise with studio sessions in the UK with Ms. Banks, and in LA with the likes of Major Lazer and current US #1 rapper Roddy Ricch – a collab that itself went on to create serious online commotion when footage of them both in the studio leaked online.
With early homegrown support coming from BBC R1Xtra’s DJ Target and Ace, as well as key tastemakers NATION OF BILLIONS, her recent collaboration with Michael Calfan on “Wild Game” raced to over 4.3M streams and counting. All eyes are now on an artist with the natural flair and charisma to continue a remarkable ascent. A serious one to watch for 2020.
