A dub track with funk influences who came from the simplicity of the melody line in many reggae songs. Like Roadblock Dub Collective done on their previous works, this song also contains an infusion of Lampung’s (Indonesia) music traditions.
Lady I herself is a reggae singer from Manila – Philippines. She grew up as a soloist after gaining musical experience from her family, one of the leading reggae outfits in her country. She has released 3 albums so far, ‘Freedom Time‘ (2009), ‘Freedub Time’ (2012) and ‘Brave Ones’ (2018) as well as several singles. Her distinctive vocal and power as a reggae artist has made her one of the most anticipated headliners at many reggae festivals in the Philippines. She is also known for her lyrical approach which always carries a positive theme as well as the power of nature healing.
Lady I describes the lyrics she wrote on ‘Vibe Up’ for Roadblock Dub Collective: “Vibe Up has something to do with making connections and telling our brothers and sisters to big up yourself for surviving this pandemic because Jah is always there to guide and protect us”
This single collaboration was made during the limitations from the current global situation. An online collaboration between Roadblock Dub Collective and Lady I. Which she thought was something of an interest. “Blessed to have been offered to do this collaboration with our brothers from Indonesia, hopefully more to come” she explained.
The artwork and illustration for ‘Vibe Up’ has been done by Nugroho Arif Prabowo, an artist and a long time ally who has created logos and illustrations as well as directed music videos for Roadblock Dub Collective in recent years.
This song is exclusively available today, March 8, 2021 on bandcamp, before officially available on many other popular digital streaming platforms.
